Field Service Modernization
Field Services
Creative MultiCare operated and dispatched 300+ field technicians, in two states and 4 submarkets, on paper invoices and a decade-old desktop app. We built the API and all the integration to modernize it — and designed and built a mobile app that took their entire field operation paperless.
The Challenge
Creative MultiCare runs a large field-service operation — more than 300 field technicians throughout Georgia and Florida every day. When they came to us in 2024, the whole operation was dependent on paper invoices: every technician filled out paper invoices by hand, and those invoices were physically delivered to a Creative MultiCare location once a week, then hand-keyed into the back-office system.
That back office was a single desktop application that hadn't been meaningfully updated in nearly a decade, backed by an on-premise SQL Server managed by an outside IT vendor. This system while reliant on paper invoices and a manual process, it still did its job, but it was a closed, aging system — no path to mobile, no real-time data, and a week-long lag between work done and work billed.
Our Approach
We didn't rip out the system they depended on — we modernized around it. We stood up a new ASP.NET Core API over their data, then built all of the integration that connects the legacy desktop application to that API, so the decade-old VB.Net desktop app keeps working while now reading and writing through a modern, secure cloud service.
Then we designed and built — end to end — a mobile app for their technicians: a .NET MAUI app where field staff capture jobs, photos, and customer signatures and submit invoices from their assigned mobile device, with no paper involved. Shared .NET contracts let the legacy desktop, the new mobile app, and a new web app all work against the same data and business rules, and the platform runs on Azure with Microsoft Entra ID security.
Outcomes
Creative MultiCare's field operation no longer runs on paper:
300+ technicians now capture work, photos, signatures, and invoices in a mobile app instead of on paper forms.
The weekly ritual of delivering paper invoices to an office and re-keying them by hand is gone — data flows straight from the field into the back office.
The decade-old desktop application is now fully integrated with a modern cloud API instead of being a closed, standalone system.
A new web application gives them a path to migrate off the legacy desktop over time, on their own schedule.
From the President of Creative Multicare
As President of a multi-state service company, I have seen firsthand how important technology is to the success and scalability of our business. Our operation is complex: we serve customers across four primary work areas throughout Georgia and Florida, with six distinct service lines operating independently while serving many of the same customers. For years, our business relied on a legacy scheduling, dispatch, and invoicing system that had become increasingly limited in its ability to support the way we actually operated. One of our biggest challenges was our continued reliance on paper invoices. The process created significant lag time between completing a service, processing the invoice, billing the customer, and ultimately getting accurate information into our payroll process. We engaged MPR Technologies to help us address these challenges, and what began as a project to migrate from paper invoices to a digital invoicing platform ultimately became a much larger transformation of our technology infrastructure. Working closely with our team, the development group helped us take our legacy dispatch and invoicing software and transform it into a fully customized platform that now incorporates CRM, Dispatching, Digital Invoicing, Billing, Pre-Payroll, Technician Analysis, and Customer Analysis functionality into a single system. What made this project particularly valuable was the team's willingness to understand our business rather than simply provide us with an off-the-shelf solution. Our six service lines have different operational requirements, workflows, and billing processes, and our four work areas operate across two states. The system needed to accommodate those differences while still providing us with a common technology platform and consistent data. The transition to digital invoicing has been one of the most significant improvements. Information that previously moved through manual and paper-based processes can now flow electronically through our system. This has reduced processing delays, improved visibility, and allowed our teams to move much more quickly from completed work to invoicing, billing, and payroll preparation. The impact has extended well beyond eliminating paper. The rewritten system has improved communication between departments, increased operational visibility, streamlined workflows, and given management significantly better access to the information needed to make business decisions. Most importantly, these improvements have had a positive impact on our bottom line. By reducing administrative inefficiencies, accelerating invoice processing and billing, and improving the flow of information throughout the organization, we have been able to operate more efficiently and devote more resources to serving our customers and growing the business. From my perspective as President, the greatest value of this project has been that the development team didn't simply build software for us—they helped us build a technology platform around the way our business actually operates. The result is a system that is more scalable, more efficient, and much better aligned with our operational needs. What started as an initiative to eliminate paper invoices became a fundamental modernization of our business processes. We consider the development team an important partner in that transformation and appreciate the technical expertise, flexibility, and commitment they brought to a complex project. Their ability to understand our business, work through unique operational requirements, and turn those requirements into a functioning, customized platform has made a meaningful difference in our organization.
